Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
What is the total cost of ownership (TCO)?
Total cost of ownership (TCO) refers to the comprehensive evaluation of direct and indirect costs associated with owning, operating and maintaining an asset or product over its entire life cycle. TCO analysis provides a holistic view of the financial impact of owning an asset, taking into account not only the initial purchase price, but also the costs incurred during its lifetime, including acquisition, operation, maintenance and disposal.
TCO usually includes several cost components such as:
1. Initial purchase price: the upfront cost of acquiring the asset, including any associated fees or taxes.
2. Operating costs: these include costs related to the daily use of the asset, such as energy consumption, fuel, labour and other operational costs.
3. Maintenance costs: costs associated with regular maintenance, repairs and upkeep to ensure that the asset remains operational and efficient.
